Hot List: Oct. 5-Oct. 12

Cross Country

  • Adam Porter, McPherson

Porter won his fourth meet of the season this past Saturday at the El Dorado Invitational. It wasn't without competition, as Hutchinson's Cameron Sprague and Derby's Neil Metler pushed him the whole race. Porter, a senior at McPherson, broke the course record with a first place finish in a time of 15 minutes, 38 seconds.

Volleyball

  • Goddard team

There might not be a hotter team outside of Andover Central than the Lions right now. The latest came this past weekend at the McPherson tournament where Goddard easily swept through its four pool play games before defeating a good Salina South team in the semifinals and another great team in Kapaun Mount Carmel in the finals, 25-20 and 25-11.

Girls Golf

  • Kapaun Mount Carmel team

Kapaun Mount Carmel, playing in the toughest Regional in the state, ran away with its Class 5A Regional on Monday at Braeburn. The Crusaders won the team title over Ark City and Bishop Carroll by 16 strokes. Courtney Wells finished second overall with a 18-hole score of 83 strokes, a career-best.

Boys Soccer

  • Maize team

What else is there left to say about the Maize boys soccer team? They have been straight-up dominant, going 14-0 this season and are only two games away from perfection in the regular season. They have widely been considered to be the best team to come out of the Wichita area in years and represent the best chance at a state title team from Wichita in years, as well.

Football

  • Demarcus Robinson, Northwest running back

Robinson has sort of lacked a break-out game this season. He finally got it last Friday night, rushing for a season-high 258 yards. Robinson has already verbally committed to Kansas State has been one of the top running backs in the City League for years.

  • Garden Plain running game

Entering this week's big showdown with Conway Springs, the Owls can't have any more momentum with its ground game. Last Friday night against Wichita Trinity, Garden Plain used eight runners to produce 382 yards and six touchdowns. Seth Klausmeyer was the leading rusher with 144 yards.

  • Cameron Fisher, Goddard wide receiver

The senior was the returning starting quarterback for the Lions entering the season, but due to a shoulder injury he willingly moved to receiver to allow sophomore Tyler Matthews to step in. Since the switch, Fisher has become dominant in the receiving game. He has racked up over 100 yards receiving in three games this season and finished with over 130 last Friday night against Hutchinson.
