Games to watch this weekend:
Eagle at Boise - Thursday, Oct. 8
Football: The Mustangs play the Braves tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Bronco Stadium. Eagle won their last game at BSU when they defeated Timberline (Boise), 34-20. Boise lost to Mountain View last week, 26-54. Eagle has the better record this season, 4-1 vs. Boise’s 2-3.
Our pick: Eagle
Teton at South Fremont - Thursday, Oct. 8
Girls Soccer: No. 1 ranked (3A) Teton plays South Fremont today. The Redskins are 11-2-2 after they defeated North Fremont this past Tuesday, 7-0. The Cougars have had similar success with a 2009 record of 8-3-1. They won their game against Sugar-Salem on Tuesday, 1-0.
Our Pick: Teton
Preston at Century - Thursday, Oct. 8
Boys Soccer: Top 4A boys soccer teams Preston and Century play this afternoon. The Preston Indians come in with a 9-3-2 record, and the Century Diamondbacks are 8-3-3. The Indians won their last four games, including their 4-3 victory over Pocatello on Tuesday. The Diamondbacks have had less success recently, losing their last game to Madison, 1-2. Preston defeated Century 3-1 the last time they played on September 24.
Our Pick: Preston
Skyline at Idaho Falls - Friday, Oct. 9
Football: The 2009 Emotion Bowl is this Friday at Ravsten Stadium in Idaho Falls. In its 44-year history, Skyline has the most wins, 25-19, but Idaho Falls won in the past two years. This season, the Grizzlies have a higher ranking (5-0) than the Tigers (2-3). The Emotion Bowl is a big deal for both 5A teams, so you can expect a close game.
Our Pick: Skyline
Highland (Pocatello) at Pocatello - Friday, Oct. 9
Football: The two teams from Pocatello face each other this Friday at Holt Arena in the 2009 Black and Blue Bowl. Highland (5A) has a 5-1 record and has won the majority of previous years’ games against Pocatello (4A), who is 2-4 this season. However, given the big rivalry between the teams, you should not count out the underdog just yet. The Indians won their recent game against Jerome, 34-13.
Our Pick: Highland
Prairie at Genesee - Friday, Oct. 9
Football: The Genesee Bulldogs play the Prairie Pirates Friday night. The two top 1A teams are undefeated so far this season, both with 5-0 records. Prairie dominated Lapwai last week, 46-0, and Genesee beat Lewis County, 42-14.
Our Pick: Prairie
Firth at Ririe - Saturday, Oct. 10
Volleyball: Two of the top 2A volleyball teams, Firth and Ririe, play each other this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Firth Cougars have a 7-2-1 record so far and the Ririe Bulldogs are 4-1. Firth and Ririe will play each other again on Tuesday, October 13, at Firth.
Our Pick: Firth
Bob Conley Invitational - Saturday, Oct. 10
Cross Country: The Bob Conley Invitational cross country meet is this Saturday. The meet is hosted by Highland High School and takes place at Highland Golf Course in Pocatello. The Rams have won the boys varsity team title for the past three years and have Dallin Farnsworth to lead the way. Eagle won the girls title last year, led by reigning 5A state champion Liz Brandon.
Our Picks: Eagle’s Liz Brandon to win the girls race and Highland’s Dallin Farnsworth to win the boys race. Boys Team: Highland. Girls Team: Eagle.
